Up to Amazon’s usual Kindle standards
It was time to bring a new Kindle into the household. We have several of different model years, but it was time to retired a couple that were several years old and getting positively ‘laggy’ in loading and downloading. But that happens. We use them a lot, we have a huge library of purchased books and always want to have access. This was a good deal on a device and the 7″ size is actually a little more convenient in some situations than the large 8″ ones we have. It’s still weightier than our small Kindle Paperwhite, but easy to carry along in a handbag or briefcase. One must ALWAYS have something to read, right? Waiting at the car dealership or for a friend who is tardy, it’s always a pleasure to have a book on hand.

Another great version
Over the years I’ve lost count of the number of Kindles I’ve owned. This model is as advertised. Not crazy that they’d changed the plug, or the latest operating software, but I will adjust.

I love it and I think it is a steal for the price!
Pleasantly surprised at how well this works and 16 gb is plenty storage for just a few streaming services and a few games plus reading. I’d only go up in storage if having music downloaded and a using the camera to take pictures is important to you and I highly recommend getting the protection plan but you should know the device does come with a 3 month defect warranty so if anything is wrong with how it was built and it poops out on ya for whatever reason they will replace it in a pinch. It’s a little slow but only if you have multiple apps open and if smooth movements from page to page is a dealbreaker for you please try the 8 or an iPad.

Strange charging problem
Update May 1 2024now my new tablet is telling me to use the charger that came with the device. I am trying to charge it from a battery as I have done for years with other tablets. This was not in the product description. Who would want a device that can’t charge from a battery?Often I can’t charge the tablet using charging ports on power strips or batteries. There’s a message to “use charger that came with your tablet” and tho the little lightning bolt displays, the percentage charge decreases, even when using an Amazon charger. I’ve used Fire 7 tablets for years and never had this strange problem. I have several Amazon chargers and I never labeled them so maybe I’m not using the exact one that arrived with the tablet but that shouldn’t prevent charging and it will charge my older tablets. One time I was able to charge when I didn’t use my usual magnetic charging cable and had to remove the magnetic port plug, which I don’t like to do because it causes additional stress in the port and I forget to reinsert the port plug. This newest fire tablet is abnormal…often refuses to charge with odd messages..”plugged in, can’t charge now”. I am trying to charge a device, OF COURSE SOMETHING IS PLUGGED IN!!!?!!. Or “use the charger that came with the tablet”…. when I tried that the tablet STILL WOULDN’T CHARGE and I had to unplug the charger before it melted…it was HOT.

Great purchase!
I mainly wanted the fire to act as a replacement for a Kindle device and this one far surpasses my expectations! It is sleek, compact, and very easy to use. The functionality with the Amazon apps are fabulous! If you’re looking for a small tablet for limited purposes, this is highly recommended for the price!

Just right.
My old kindle that I bought years ago finally died and I got this one to replace it. Better battery and more storage and it came preregistered with my account information. All of my books were in the cloud although I couldn’t tell which had been downloaded to my old Kindle so I had to download them and open them to determine which had been read. The only issue was that it was totally dead when it arrived and I had to plug it in and charge it before I could use it (nothing about that in the instructions) and there was no light to indicate that it was charging like the old one did. It has a lot of apps that I’ll probably never use, but still all in all a good product at a good price.

12th Generation (2022) Version is almost perfect
So I only just got this and thought I’d share my initial review and hopefully answer questions that others might have that has been difficult to find answers for.Size differencesAs most have already seen, this version is different from the previous in shape and size, yes it is slightly smaller. For most users who had the previous version, the kicker is that your covers and cases etc. are no longer compatible. Also the Charger uses USB-C plug also which is different from the previous versions. In terms of performanceThis is night and day in comparison to the older versions. The older version was slick when it first came out but like most people know, the FireOS is basically Android and as more and more updates have been applied, the older version is now running really slow. So basically this new version hardware was tailored for the today’s version of android thus it runs very fast and very slick, this is a very crucial issue.NO YOUTUBE KIDS APPThe biggest issue anyone will encounter and is well known about is that this does not have the Google Play Store or accompanying services. That means that IT DOES NOT HAVE THE NATIVE YOUTUBE KIDS APP.There are many people on here that simply either don’t understand what a native app is or simply confuse it with the main Youtube. I myself had multiple answers that failed to answer this basic question with multiple contradictory answers or reviews that failed to understand the question.Amazon FIRE tablets DO NOT HAVE YOUTUBE KIDS Apps. Amazon has their own Youtube.com app which it seems they created as the developer email address for that app is an amazon.com email address. When you click YOUTUBE KIDS link in that app it jumps to the browser and opens in the browser which is a terrible experience. It is strange given that on the fire TV, the YouTube app allows you to switch to kids profiles, if only Amazon would do that for their tablet youtube app. But until then What you have are 3rd party apps built by you know who on the AppStore that plays youtube. They are not native apps, nor do they support most of the functionality as is. They are not written by Youtube, Google or Amazon either, so if you want to give those apps your google login which is used for Youtube Kids then you do so at your own risk.YES YOU CAN INSTALL YOUTUBE KIDS NATIVE APP, BUT YOU HAVE TO DO IT YOURSELF.I don’t know why nor will I try to even get into this very very old topic of not having youtube kids, but the GOOD news is that it is very simple and easy to get Youtube kids native apps on this 12th gen version. You don’t need to be a modder or anything intense. But a simple web search will tell you how to do this. Just know that you will have to install 4 different google apps/services first to get the Play Store. This is even easier as you simply open the browser, download each of them from the website and Click to install. DONE AND DUSTED. Once you have the Play Store you can easily install any of the native youtube Kids apps or even the original Youtube app from google and even login to your tablet with your gmail account. I was able to do this in 30 minutes. With YouTube Kids installed. I am now able to give this 10 Stars. This is basically very decent hardware and latest OS for $60.You cannot go wrong with this as a kids tablet especially with the ability from Amazon to quickly lock this down.Touch Screen is extremely responsiveI have struggled to find a decent priced kids tablet that is responsive enough to use the ANTON app without lag. This is the fastest tablet I have seen at this price point. For those that haven’t used ANTON, it is by far the best app for teaching your kids. It has school derived lessons, I would recommend every parent should download ANTON. But it’s writing lessons, needs a screen that is responsive and a fairly decent tablet. This tablet passes the ANTON test with a gold star.Sound is clear with some bass. It doesn’t sound like a tin can.Sound quality is very loud and clear. Trust me, if you’ve been through the dozen kids tablets I have, you will be surprised how much of a let down it would be when you have poor sound. Kids need to hear clearly and this does it without issues. The Amazon AppStore itself is actually pretty good. All the apps we had on our old android tablet were available except for Youtube Kids. I’d imagine there are many more that are not available but most of the decent kids ones are on there including ANTON, ABC Kids etcI would think that since the FireTV Youtube app allows kids profiles, that Amazon would at some point do the same with their own tablet Youtube app.As it is right now this table is almost perfect especially once I was able to manually install play store and youtube kids easily. I’m ordering a second one.

Perfect kindle book reader; all else secondary
I snagged this latest 12 th gen 7” fire tablet at one of amazons sales $39 in late 2023. The latest chip and 2 gigs RAM makes a real difference compared to a 7” fire I had a couple or so years ago. Last one was basically useless, slow, crashed, and the book reader could not even smoothly do page curl turns. BUT THIS ONE IS DIFFERENT. IF YOU ARE A BOOK READER I ASSURE YOU THERE’S A LOT TO LOVE HERE. (and see one more surprising positive below in my update). The kindle app is flawless and almost snappy on this device. Page turning page curls are smooth and totally free of stutter or lock up like the earlier generation. It has a LOT of nits of brightness – surprisingly VERY bright even for my somewhat older eyes. Making text a bit larger is great (if your vision can use that help) and the screen resolution is totally fine for reading text, no issues at all even though it seemed like it’s a bit lower resolution in its specs. I leave it full brightness and still the battery lasts forever. Given a choice of the e-ink kindle costing much more, and this tablet (I have both) this little 7” fire tablet is FAR SUPERIOR FOR BOOK READING THAN THE e-ink tablet: it is more responsive, agile in changing text size, and lots of nits of brightness for easy reading. If you buy it ONLY as a dedicated book reader, and especially if you get the $39 price – it’s a steal and an incredibly under recognized useful budget reading tablet. Scale of 1-10 as a book reader I give it a 10. No question. More pros: surprisingly solid feel, no bending or creaking- really feels solid in the hand. Not too heavy but it’s not like so paper light that it feels flimsy. I recommend you get a case however cheap, because it is a little slippery to hold. Current OS on it is reasonably responsive and has not once ever crashed. Ok now some practical comparisons. As a tablet it is maybe a 4 on that same scale of 1 to 10: it is not super fast opening apps, the selection of fire available apps is poor, and you should accept that this is not a high end android or apple tablet. Yet, several streaming apps work flawlessly and you can watch media on it but the screen is a little washed out on color and lower resolution when your eyes compare to a high end tablet, or iPhone or 4k TV. The silk browser does work, just not super fast. The USB C charging port (!) was a splendid surprise, and the files app built into the OS let’s you surf a USB flash drive you can plus into that USB port which is surprising and kind of really cool FOR A THIRTY NINE DOLLAR TABLET! I did find that USB 3.0 maybe 3.1 works plugged into the USB C port but not USB 3.2. Last note: it has a standard headphone jack. Streaming audio including Spotify through headphones gives very very good sound. Shockingly the OS is sophisticated enough that you can plug a USB C to 3.5 mm female headphone adapter and plug headphones into that and it DOES stream the sound that way to headphones too. Sound quality seems identical either way. Portable, fun, great book reader, quite competent on card game apps and streaming apps including Netflix, Amazon prime, HULU, Disney, other free streamers like Crackle and Pluto and more; long lasting battery life, quite solid, lots of fun and so budget priced that if these capabilities sound appealing just buy the thing you will love it. Great toy to add to the small electronics fun gadgets in our lives. Update 11 22 23: one more positive to note: surprising but absolutely true: just discovered that Facebook’s Messenger app will handle video calling and the result is extremely good – even shockingly good; sharp image, no dropped frames, perfect clean sound quality. Years ago it would have been impossible to imagine an inexpensive tablet gadget that could do video calls like that; yet, here we are. Outstanding!

Nice reader
Full disclosure, I bought this 2022 release 7 inch Fire tablet from Best Buy (I had rewards that we fixing to expire and I didn’t need anything else, so I bought this there, rather than from Amazon). This little tablet is perfect for my uses, as I bought it specifically to use as an eReader, and for that, it’s perfect (for me).I also have the 2019 release of the 7 inch Fire tablet, which is about half an inch longer, so if you’re planning to use the same case or screen protector, you’re out of luck. This 2022 version (12th gen), in length and width, is about the size of a standard mass market paperback. It’s right around 3/8ths of an inch thick, and feels pretty light weight to me. Certainly light enough that it won’t become heavy even after several hours of dedicated reading. It charges pretty quickly. Right out of the box, it had a 6% charge. Using the included cord and plug, it powered up to 100% battery in an hour or so, and each charge seems to last a good while. (This Fire tablet will also tell you how many hours and minutes of charge are left, presumably based on your current activity. I like this feature a lot.)Setup was easy, as it wasn’t linked to my account since I bought from a 3rd party vendor (Best Buy). It took maybe 5 minutes, because there was an update that needed to install.Other than the size difference between this one and the 2019 version, some things are changed. Most important for me are the control buttons. The power button has been relocated from the right side to the left, which is going to take me some time to get used to but I will, eventually. Whereas before, the buttons, from L to R, were ordered as Volume, Headphone Jack, Charging Port, Power, the 2022 Fire 7 is ordered (also L to R) as Power, Volume, Charging Port, Headphone Jack. I can’t say it’s better or worse. Just different. So far, this tablet operates well and opens/navigates quickly. That may (or may not) be because I only use it for reading and checking other books on Amazon’s website.I hate the Silk browser, but it is what it is.I don’t like that I can’t uninstall any of the pre-loaded apps that I will never use, or even just remove the icons from my home screen (as far as I know), but that’s a relatively minor thing.I’ve given this 7 inch 12th generation 2022 Fire tablet 4 stars due to the inconvenient things I mentioned above, but on the whole, I like it for what I use it for. I can’t speak to heavy/very varied use. I would not try to use this for hardcore gaming. If you’re looking for an affordably-priced eReader with light internet use, this tablet might just be for you.

IT WORKS GREAT AND SETS UP EASILY
This is my 5th kindle so I’m a little bit of an expert on this item. I can watch pretty much any movie that can be streamed, shop for ad buy anything on amazon (or any seller for that matter), play any game that doesn’t need a controller, and read any book that Amazon has with this kindle fire. Copying my files over from an old kindle to my new one is almost automatic with WiFi. Having said that, I have no experience doing this via USB cable from a computer so can’t rate that process. I don’t play google-based games here, so don’t know about those issues. My only negative is that this kindle came with a REALLY empty battery. The battery was so low that when I initially placed it on a charger, I couldn’t even get it to tell me it was charging. Thankfully, when I returned to it several minutes later it gave me the low battery logo which indicates charging. Also, the initial software freshen takes several minutes, so don’t get in a hurry to use the thing.Pros: It does everything I need it to do. It’s super user friendly to set up and transfer previous kindle files.Cons: The low battery indicator won’t show during early initial charging. The software refresh is slow.

Stars for use as an e-reader, which is why I got it
I needed an e-reader which could handle my needs, and that’s why I rated my Fire 7 highly. I’m not using it to play games or stream movies or take pictures and videos. Though I got the no ads/32 gig model, because reading is serious business.Because it was my six year old Kindle Paperwhite that got me into this. I love reading on it, even library books. This is important, because I’m a writer (The Way of Cats book) and a devoted reader. To keep up with this favorite hobby, I have a Kindle Unlimited subscription. Still, there are many books, and I also subscribe to Scribd. I have books I own, and books I rent, essentially.Which makes my Paperwhite less of a general reader than I would like. I’m also researching a new book. I can send all these PDFs to my Kindle account, but it’s not the same reading or highlighting experience as an optimized PDF reader. In my mind, I’d like to keep these documents, but not on my Bookshelf, mixed with the thrillers and the sciences.Recent thoughts of how long my Paperwhite would last led me to consider e-readers in general. Reading outdoors is combining two of my favorite things, where a dedicated e-ink device really shines, so some kind of Kindle reader is important to me. But I could really use a general purpose reader. This was my first attempt at combining these needs. I am very pleased. The Silk browser, included, let me navigate to the address of the Scribd app (information on the Scribd site.) This let me download a third party app, permission for which I first adjusted in settings. Currently testing PDF readers in the Amazon App Store, for some free books I got in that format. Now I have three readers in one. My Kindle and Scribd books update on my other apps, and I them as I’ve always done. This screen is as easy to read on as my iPad mini, so no complaints. My iPad is bigger and heavier, with the case and the Pencil, and not something I put in my purse if I don’t need to. The Fire 7 works better for what I usually need a purse device for, which is reading and web browsing. My phone is really old and won’t keep downloaded books for very long. The idea being that if I’m stuck somewhere with no wifi, I have books in the device. And they will be there. The Kindle app is almost fully operational, but I can’t put books into Collections with it, and the layout is subtly different, but it works fine. If it gets confused, I restart it. It’s not a high tech device, but it’s great for the price.

Cannot recommend buying the Kindle Fire 7
First, I want to give a shout out to Dyle, the Amazon customer service representative, who patiently and valiantly tried to help me with the issues I’m having with my new Kindle Fire 7. He is phenomenal, and I’d give him 100 stars if I could. Unfortunately, the overall rating is 1 (and I wish I could give it something lower) due to Amazon’s product, and the very weak warranty period surrounding it. I bought my first Kindle Fire 7 in 2013, and have absolutely loved it. I used it everyday, primarily borrowing books from my local library. The interface between the library and Amazon worked perfectly, and I downloaded over 1000 books during that time, all downloaded to my Kindle Fire successfully. I decided this past August that I should get a new Kindle Fire 7, as the charging of my old one was getting slower and slower. Big mistake on my part – I should have on to the old one. Everything started out fine with the new Kindle Fire 7. I continued my usual routine of getting books from my library, and they successfully downloaded to the new Kindle. After about 6 weeks (halfway through the meager 90-day warranty period), the downloading function stopped working. I got an error message saying that Amazon was working on the issue, and to try again later. After about a week of continuing error messages, I thought I should contact customer support. Well over an hour later with the representative, all I was told was that it must be an error at my library. The error message indicating that Amazon was working on the problem certainly seemed bogus. With the customer service rep, I was able to successfully download library books from my PC and my iPhone to the new Kindle. So the rep also added that I should just use my PC or iPhone to download books. Not a good answer, Amazon. I bought the Kindle Fire 7 specifically for the functionality which allows me to, with only the Kindle, take out books from the library and download them. And, obviously, the Kindle had proven that this technology should work, until 6 weeks into my ownership of the new Kindle. I wound up speaking with an Amazon supervisor, who acknowledged that the issue was on the Amazon side. She indicated she would open a case with Amazon’s Software Engineering Department in order to resolve the issue. She also indicated that I would be contacted by Amazon in about a week with a resolution. I asked if I could call in, concerned that I may not get a call back. I was told that I could not call Software Engineering. This was not unexpected, I just wanted to talk with someone in Customer Service who would be able to tell me the status of my issue. The supervisor said she would document this situation in detail in my account record, so if I did call in, I should be able to get a quick response. Fast forward 10 days, I still haven’t heard from Amazon, and my warranty period is quickly ticking away. I called in, and got the wonderful Dyle to help me. (I did not put him on the spot, but it seemed apparent to me that the supervisor I had spoken to previously did not document the issue, or at least not sufficiently for someone else to be able to follow). Dyle tried a number of troubleshooting ideas that neither of the first two representatives tried. Unfortunately, none were successful, and through consultation with someone else at Amazon (I assume his supervisor), they said I needed to send my Kindle back and they would attempt to repair, or else send me a new one. I asked if the warranty period starts fresh with the repaired/new Kindle, and was told that it did not. So, in the time I waited, seeing if Amazon’s error message was accurate (indicating they were working to resolve the issue), calling into Customer Service and waiting 10 days with no response from them, then sending my Kindle in for repair/replacement, I estimate I have lost about 30% of the already skimpy 90 day warranty period. This is just not right. The issue with the Kindle did not occur until owning it for 6 weeks. If the same pattern repeats itself, I will be well beyond the warranty period when the issue occurs, and then I will just have thrown my money away on this Kindle. Dyle (and his supervisor?), understanding my concern, offered a partial refund if I just wanted to return the Kindle. Why partial though, Amazon? It’s been acknowledged that the issue is with the Kindle. Why should I have to pay anything if you send me a defective Kindle? Very bad business model. Not a good way at all to treat your customers. I cannot recommend this product.

Works as expected
I was looking for something to dip my toe into the water of E-readers. This is small and lightweight, easy to drop in your bag to have on the go. I did buy a case to protect it during transport but it seems pretty durable without it. Screen quality is good, easy to read on. I do wish I had sprung for the paper white as reading in high light areas can be difficult sometimes. It is not the fastest at processing but if you take the time to download your intended reads it works just fine. The battery life is excellent, only needing to be charged every couple days with light to moderate reading. I do not use this for anything other than reading so I couldn’t tell you about any of the other features.

Love the smaller, lighter Amazon 7 tablet.
My old Kindle Fire finally wore out after many years.I love that the new Fire 7 tablet is a bit smaller. I will say that it certainly has a lot of bells and whistles. I usually only use the Kindle for reading but am now going to use the new Fire 7 for a lot of other things. I did find it a bit hard to get used to. I didn’t need to have a PIN but this one came with it. I love that all my old books that I haven’t read showed up on the new tablet. This will take some getting used to for all the extras it came with but I love this one for reading.

Amazon has done it again!
I bought this for my bonus daughter for Christmas and she doesn’t go anywhere without it. The battery last all day, perfect for long car rides. This tablet is fast with Crisp and clear display and the touch screen makes everything easier

An economical alternative to an iPad
I wanted a smaller tablet to use for watching videos when I was in bed. I have an iPad PRO which is big, heavy, and has the battery life of a AA heavy-duty battery. I decided to try the Amazon Fire 7 tablet. Not only did I have access to all my Kindle books if I wanted them, but I could stream videos using the Silk browser or available streaming apps. Right out of the box I noticed some buffering issues, so I added a 32 GB micro SD card and have had no problems since. I paid $59.98 for it on a summer Prime Days deal, and couoldn’t be happier.

Great tool!
I love it for reading on the Kindle app. Less expensive than a Kindle device and more versatile.

Different but good
My earlier Kind Fire died and I replaced it with this version. Not only was it far cheaper than I had thought, it is a substantial update to my old one. The software is different, but manageable. The screen is sharper, the battery lasts longer (I think). Colors are vibrant and sharp.

Good replacement but maybe should have spent more for another Fire 8
I left my new-ish Fire 8 on top of my car and sure enough it fell off on the road and was never found. Ugh. Bought it on sale and didn’t want to pay full price for another so went with the Fire 7. Partly because I like how the Fire 7 fits in my hand. It’s good. But the Fire 8 was noticeably better in terms of (1) screen, (2) sound, (3) speed, (4) battery life. The Fire 7 is not simply a smaller Fire 8. But the Fire7 does what I need and is better than no tablet at all.

3.5 stars would be most accurate.
At least it’s inexpensive. We’ve bought 2. Not a fan of the interface. Luckily, it was for my kids, not me. They seem OK with it. 16G is is already not much storage, but it’s ridiculous if system storage and pre-installed/uninstallable apps take up 10G of that. She has 6 apps, 0 pics, 0 videos. So now the whole tablet glitches, until we delete something or expand storage. Forget about updating apps. Not sure if i should thank the tablet or the protector (pink kitty cat ears) but this thing has been dropped no less than a bazillion times, touched my sticky fingers, small spills…and the screen is doing fine. My son has the Amazon clear case + plastic screen protector, and there are a few fine cracks, but not shattered. Though the storage is VERY frustrating, they’ve lasted months. So overall a decent product.

Great FOR THE PRICE
I was an early Kindle Fire adapter, but I think the last one I bought was in 2017. So this one is definitely a step up from that. I just got tired of the Fire OS – it was too locked up and not as robust as regular Android. Plus, there is one mindless Android game that I love that isn’t available in the Amazon App Store, so that’s a thing.I like to talk a lot before getting to the actual review. Sorry. Context is important for me.***Actual review***I decided to buy a new Fire because I wanted something a little larger than my phone screen (I have a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, which actually has a pretty large screen) to watch movies on when on vacation. Fires tend to be cheaper than most tablets, so I looked there first. This came up with decent specs for an amazing price, so I bought one. Then realized that it wouldn’t be out until 6/29.I got it yesterday and set it up. Here are my impressions:Kindle Fire 7 with 32gb storage & no ads.Pros – Perfect size to watch movies on an airplane tray table – Decent screen resolution (my eyesight isn’t what it used to be, and this is still better than everything I had growing up) – Made for Amazon environment, so Prime Video, Audible, and Kindle books work great. Mostly. – Most of the apps I use are in the Amazon Appstore – I paid $94 to get this without ads and to get the 32gb size – that’s way cheaper than a comparable name brand tablet anywhere else (I’m looking at you Samsung & Apple!) – There’s an expandable memory slot – I have a 128gb micro SD card in there (It makes you format the card before you can use it) – USB-C cord!!!!!! I don’t know when Fires switched to this, but I’m glad they finally did – Amazing battery life. I downloaded a whole bunch of shows and also reset a couple of times. Then downloaded again. After several hours of aggressive usage, it’s still at 66%.Cons – Wow, this is slow. I’m comparing it to my phone, which is technically top of the line as of last November, and this is slow. It’s also $1400 less than I paid for my phone, so while it’s annoying, it’s not enough to knock off a whole star. – Can’t fast charge. Not a huge issue because the battery is pretty big & I have to sleep sometime, but still. – Can’t download the one game I want from the Play store. Yes, I know that there’s a way to do it, but it’s annoying that it’s not easy out of the box. – Not all the customer service people know enough about this to help when you have issues. (Yeah, technically not the unit’s fault, but as someone who was DM’ing with them for 2 hours yesterday and talked with 4 different people, I’m putting this con somewhere!) – Can’t save Prime Video content to the SD card. At least you can’t download there. That’s why I got the card. I’m not sure I can transfer Prime Videos between internal & SD yet. I think this is the same for all Amazon content. – I kept getting “service_error” when I downloaded tv episodes that I had purchased, even when the episodes weren’t on another device. According to Customer Service, you can only have them on 2 devices. I only had them on one, and I deleted them off that one, and I still kept getting the error.TL;DR: This is a really, really good tablet, bordering on great FOR. THE. PRICE! The form factor is awesome for travel, and as long as you play in Amazon’s sandbox, the experience is mostly good. I did have a lot of problems downloading episodes, which is actually why I bought this in the first place, and I don’t like that you can’t download Amazon content to the SD card. I’m not sure if there are legal reasons for that, but I don’t like it.

The best purchase I ever made except
This is one of the best purchase I ever made except it doesn’t not have the Google Play store app with Kids YouTube and other play store apps. I know when I bought my older fire tablet the apps was on there. Amazon please put Google Play store back on the fire tablets.

Love this!
I like the Amazon Fire better than the IPad. From the ease to set it up, to the vibrant colors and apps! Plus it is better priced than the expensive IPads.

Perfect for a kid!
I got this for our son’s 10th birthday and it’s perfect so far! Only problem that I ran into was that it doesn’t have the Google Play store since it’s an Amazon product it only comes with Amazon apps and an Amazon play store type app. It does have YouTube though! I Googled how to install Google onto the tablet and found the directions online through GeekTech or something like that. Now, you do take a chance in doing it. It probably voids your warranty by doing it. But I followed the directions given online and watched a YouTube video explaining how to download the files for Google administrator ext, (like 4 files) and it WORKS! Downloaded Google play store so he could get access to way more apps/games! But just remember that if you chose to do it it will more than likely void your warranty. Which was a risk I went ahead and took. Works great and his games play faster than playing on a phone! He’s a happy kiddo!

Great battery life so far!
I bought this to replace older Fire 7 tablet that has problems with WiFi connectivity and very short battery life. This ismuchit’s better! My only suggestion: be aware that it is slight smaller and lighter than than the 2019 Fire 7. Thus, you will need a new case. (I found a case similar to my original Fire case, much less expensive, a bit stiffer, but works similarly. It does not have the ‘open to wake’ front, but neither does my cell phone case!) I do feel the sound is not quite as loud on this Fire tablet but that is minor. All in all, a great deal!Edit: 10/6/2024Although this tablet remains faster than my former Fire 7 tablet, I must add that I have discovered some Cons:1. The phasing in of the new Gallery photo app is awkward. I greatly prefer the original Photos app. I simply dropped Gallery into an Unused folder.2. The Amazon storefront app is not as convenient for as it is no longer so intuitive. (I now find myself purchasing more items locally.)3. The ‘bloatware’ continues to be a nuisance, taking up valuable space. I wish it were Google compatible so that I could choose my apps.4. A basic inexpensive tablet, largely a marketing tool, it remains serviceable. IMO, my android tablet and phone better suit my needs. The SD card does not integrate well to extend memory.5. The Appstore security app offering have greatly diminished. I was actually told by Amazon IT that I should remove one as the store only sells them, does not guarantee their safety. I am aware that this is a problem recently with other play stores, etc. I was assured that Fire tablets are hard to hack. But many data systems have vulnerabilities. In summary, a well priced tablet for basic entertainment, it has limits. I own 2 older models and this newer one. They interface well with Alexa. The clock app works even if WiFi drops and is a great alarm backup. However, I will not purchase another.

The only complaint I have is that it’s not compatible with Nortons 360.
